ANGEL KIDS PEDIATRICS TO AID IN RELIEF EFFORTS FOLLOWING HURRICANE HARVEY
Jacksonville-based pediatrics practice seeking donations of children’s items to provide relief following devastation in Texas

Jacksonville, FL August 31, 2017. Angel Kids Pediatrics, the largest private pediatric practice in Northeast Florida, announced today that it has partnered with the Gruene Marines (TX6), chapter of the Women Marines  Association to collect and deliver aid in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.

The Jacksonville-based pediatric practice announced today plans to collect and deliver aid in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey that has devastated the Houston area. Its five pediatric offices across Jacksonville, FL, will begin collecting much-needed children’s items including baby food, formula, diapers and children’s clothes from the local community to be delivered to those affected in Texas.  It has partnered with the Texas Chapter of the Women Marines Association, the Gruene Marines, and will rely on them to facilitate the distribution of aid.

Hurricane Harvey is causing unprecedented catastrophic flooding in Texas. It has brought record amounts of rain to an area that includes some of Texas’ most populous cities. By the time the storm ends, some areas may see more than 50 inches of rain.  At least 38 people have been killed and dozens injured.  Flooding from Harvey is overburdening resources.

“Natural disasters have devastating short and long-term effects, and not long ago, our city, Jacksonville, was hit by hurricane Matthew which caused widespread damage,” notes Dr. Affan, President and Founder of Angel Kids Pediatrics, “such disasters also bring people and communities together, and as citizens and as humans, we have the utmost responsibility to lend a hand in any way we can.”

Angel Kids Pediatrics understands the long-lasting effects disasters have on children’s physical and mental health; they can affect children’s access to medical care, and cause them to suffer tremendous psychological harm from damage to their homes and the resulting breakdown to their neighborhoods and social networks. The organization continues to seek other community partners in this effort, and is calling on the Jacksonville community to support its response and recovery efforts.
Donations of non-perishable items of baby food, diapers, children’s clothes are crucial to Angel Kids’ efforts. Its  wide footprint in Northeast Florida enables it to collect items within a number of communities, and its partnership with the Gruene Marines, will allow it to deliver relief efficiently to those in need. “We are thrilled Angel Kids Pediatrics has reached out to assist those affected by the flood,” says Kirsten Sultemeier, Chapter President, “as  Marines and as Texans, we know our responsibilities lie in helping our neighbors and enriching our communities. We thank Angel Kids Pediatrics and their friends and families for joining us on this mission.”
