Overview

A child’s health and well-being are not solely limited to just their physical wellness, but also to their behavioral and mental health. As parents, sometimes we forget that our children may have issues or concerns that they have difficulty verbalizing. In many instances, the most common Behavioral Health concerns show little to no obvious signs, to the untrained eye. Every child has a voice that want’s to be heard, and our physicians at Angel Kids Pediatrics want you to know that we’re here to listen.

What is the Behavioral Health Clinic?

The Behavioral Health Clinic (BHC) is an integrated specialty clinic which provides services to children, adolescents, and their families for developmental, behavioral, emotional, social, and academic problems. The BHC is a cooperative effort between your physician and psychologist at Angel Kids Pediatrics (AKP).

How is treatment conducted?

Prior to being able to receive treatment within our clinic, you will need to schedule your child to be seen by one of Angel Kids Pediatrics’ providers. The provider would then submit a referral to our in-house behavioral health program.

Once your referral has been submitted, we work to get you and your child scheduled for your initial visit. During the first session, parents are interviewed to determine the nature of the problem and a potential course of treatment. Additional sessions are usually scheduled weekly or every other week. The number of additional sessions depends on the nature and severity of the problem, but a total of five to ten visits is common. Usually, both the child and parents attend all sessions.

Will my health insurance cover services at BHC?

Services at the BHC are covered under the mental health portion of many insurance plans, including Medicaid. If you are not sure about coverage, contact your insurance carrier or the benefits office at your place of employment and ask about your coverage.

We also take self-pay patients.
